Escape Hanoi for a full day on the emerald water of Halong Bay, one of the most photographed seascapes in Asia.

Between 8:00 and 8:45 AM, your English-speaking guide and driver collect you from your hotel in the Hanoi Old Quarter or by the Opera House. The journey follows the Hanoi – Haiphong – Tuan Chau expressway, a comfortable drive of about two and a half hours, with a 30-minute rest stop along the way.

You arrive at Tuan Chau Harbour around 11:45 AM and board a 5-star cruise, where the crew greets you with a welcome drink. The boat is fitted out to five-star standard — an air-conditioned restaurant with panoramic windows, an open sun deck and indoor lounge seating. As the boat pulls away from the pier, the limestone karsts of the bay begin to rise out of the water around you — a landscape shaped over 500 million years and recognised twice by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site.

Lunch is served on board at 12:30 PM: a Vietnamese buffet in the boat’s restaurant, eaten while the scenery drifts past the windows on both sides — thousands of islands, large and small, each with its own silhouette.

At 2:00 PM, the boat docks at Bo Hon Island and you climb up to Sung Sot Cave — “the Cave of Surprises” — the largest and most beautiful grotto in Halong Bay, its vast chambers filled with illuminated stalactites and stalagmites.

At 2:45 PM comes the most memorable part of the day for many guests: kayaking, or riding a traditional bamboo boat, through Luon Cave — a low natural tunnel in the rock that opens into a quiet emerald lagoon enclosed on all sides by cliffs.

At 3:15 PM you reach Titop Island. Swim from its crescent of white sand, or make the climb to the viewpoint at the top, where the whole bay opens out beneath you — the single best photograph of the trip.

At 4:30 PM you return to the boat for the sunset party: wine, tea, fresh fruit and biscuits on deck while the cruise makes its way back to the harbour and the karsts turn gold and then blue.

The boat arrives back at Tuan Chau at around 6:30 PM. You board the bus for Hanoi and are dropped off at your hotel between 9:00 and 9:30 PM.
